Are you at risk?

The most frequent risk factors

A study, published in 2011, on gambling and player protection in Austria (Glücksspiel und Spielerschutz in Österreich, Kalke et al., Lambertus Verlag) shows that 18-35-year-olds, people with minimum qualifications, the unemployed, low earners and people who gamble frequently and for high stakes increasingly have gambling problems. Migrants also show a higher risk of developing a gambling problem. In 2015, the study was repeated and the population groups at risk were confirmed.

Background and surroundings can also play a decisive role in the development of a gambling addiction. Associated risk factors in this context include: excessive or inordinate gambling role models (peers), group pressure, history of (gambling) addiction problems in the family, broken-home situations, etc.
